Classroom Homework Assignment Text – NOT a self-help instruction manual.I’ve made this mistake two (2) times now with the same author. Shame on me! Solidworks is the type of subject that has hundreds (possibly 1,000+) of basic building blocks that need to be presented in an organized spreadsheet format for quick access during the weeks and months of learning. The combination of needing each topic is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to predict so using a specific “part” design is a ONE-OFF EXAMPLE – it will never be needed or used again.Value problem – a person “learning” Solidworks does not need chapters about becoming “certified” in the use of Solidworks. Also, a person “learning” Solidworks is not ready to step into AM/3D-printing. And one more negative, a person “learning” Solidworks” really just needs to learn the most reliable or robust method to achieve each outcome. This book provides multiple ways to achieve the same result by introducing design changes. “Change” to the part design is expected, change to how the software works is NOT expected while in a steep learning curve! Being taught “short cuts” about packing a parachute is never done while in your 1st free fall 😊!The design process has been completely uprooted by Solidworks; however, most of the manuals overlook the need to devote a full chapter to explain what needs to be “unlearned”, “de-programmed” from 2D line drafting, 3D wireframe line drafting, and descriptive geometry. Embracing the Solidworks approach inherently advances the manufacturability, GD&T, and economical use of commodity raw stock materials. Also, the parametric benefits are not just within a single part design but also any mating parts (eg. bolt hole patterns for assembly). An introductory manual should provide this background to foster the correct mindset for a very different design process.
