Way easier than the paper clip and flashing light method
Honestly I wish I got this thing way sooner. I’d been reading the codes off my 1992 Ranger using the paper clip and counting the check engine light flashes for a long time, and there were always times where I couldn’t tell if I counted them right, or if the delay meant we were at the memory codes, etc. this takes all the guess work out of it. The book is also great, and I actually learned about the ignition timing check. The build quality is a little suspect, so I would definitely buy some crimp connectors to make your own extension cable so you only have to connect to the connectors on the tester once, and so you can read the codes from inside the vehicle.

Works great for 1992 F150
Got it for a 1992 Ford F150 and it worked like a charm reading codes. Was a little hard figuring out how to connect to the connector on the truck but once we figured it out, it was able to tell us what errors the truck had quickly.

The Right Tool for the Job--a "service engine soon" light on a 1989 Chev.
I have a 1989 Corvette that was showing a "service engine soon" light. I've got an OBD2 reader, but that's no use on a car of this age. This unit worked exactly as advertised. I plugged it in, and then read the blinking dash light to get the codes. In my case, the accompanying book indicated I had a problem with my mass airflow sensor and/or my manifold absolute sensor. I cleaned the MAF sensor with the correct cleaner and found that my year's engine does not have a MAP sensor. I also replaced the two relays that control the MAF sensor. No more "service engine soon" light!!!!I read negative reviews of this device and how the pins will can come loose and retract into the plastic housing making the device useless. Not sure if they've improved their manufacturing, or I got lucky, but mine is fine. Finally, The internet is full of very good advice on how you can use a paperclip to jump two of the pins on an OBD-1 port and read the blinking code on the dashboard of these older vehicles. I completely agree that this will work and save you the cost of this device. However, the gymnastics (for me) of holding a paperclip precisely in place (with one hand), while turning on the key and reading (and writing down) the blinking light codes up on the center of the dashboard (with the other hand) made this device an easy decision. Maybe if I had a pickup truck or some other large vehicle with plenty of room in the interior to maneuver, I might have gone with the paperclip.

Great tool to have
This tool is a must have if you're diagnosing an odb1 Ford. Infinitely easier than the paper clip trick. I'm not worried about the device breaking, however if you leave the manual in your glovebox over summer the binding may come undone and the book fall apart on you

Works like a champ
If you have a ford that is 2995 or earlier, then you need this code reader to determine the check engine light meaning

This 3145 model is ONLY for 91-94 f150s w/ 7.3l engine.
READ BEFORE PURCHASE!!! Then 3145 model I purchased did not work on my 93 f150 4.9. The male pins on it do not match up the the female pins on my trucks data tes t plug. Made 3 jumper terminal wires with males on one end and females on the other ends I tried every (9) combinaton. Nope. Called Innova tech support. They said it ONLY works with 91-94 fords with the 7.3l engine! Page 7 of the owners manual actually list my particular truck but was told that was an error. I asked what model reader do they have that would work for my truck and was told that they do not make one!!! All the reviews must be a conglomerate of all their readers for varoius other vehicles.

Works well but pins get pushing in the Unit.
OBD1 code reader works good and is easy to use. This device comes with a very detailed book and it worth the price, with one mentioning it paid for itself in repair savings. I had issues with the pins getting pushed into the unit. Only for this reason I am giving 3 stars. I returned and requested a replacement.
