Backstory: 4 decades of owning cats has led to many, many searches for the best litter boxes. Before this one, I had 3 pans out: a small basic pan for a kitten, a sifting one that used pine pellets, and a very large box with 3 high sides. Unfortunately, I have a digger, and all my cats seem to like to fly out of the pans at full velocity. I seriously think they have a secret contest to see who can scatter the litter the furthest and with pans being near my shower, litter was always in the shower, on the floor, even outside the room. The boyfriend was out of patience and I went searching for low scatter litter boxes. I found this one. It seemed like the right fit but wasn't sure I wanted to spend $70 on yet another type of litter box but I kept going back to it.Finally, one color was reduced to $45 and I finally gave in.REVIEW: I've only been using it a few weeks. It is already worth it just from less b!@#$ ING from my boyfriend about litter on the floor and in the shower. Don't get me wrong, there is still small amounts of litter on my floor but those steps combined with an extra large mat SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the litter tracked out and reduces how far it flies because they can't just take a flying leap.I'm not crazy about the shape. The outside looks so weird but that is not a concern to me. I don't, however, like the kidney shape inside. I think the thought process was no square corners, no stuck poop in the corners but I assure you my cats find a way to get to narrowed edges and with rectangular scoops, it's a bit of an awkward angle to scoop. This is well worth the tradeoff of not having litter in my shower every single day.As you'll read in other reviews, yes it has a large footprint but my previous litter box was oversized too. Yes, it does well containing litter scatter. The lid doesn't snap or lock into place (which could be a potential problem if you have a large dog who is determined to get a snack -- though the design should keep them from casually walking by and grabbing a bite) but for me the lid not having to be locked down just makes it easier for me to remove for cleaning.Summary/TLDR: If you're looking for a litter box to reduce scatter, this is the best I've found so far.

It took me weeks to commit to a litter box. I read tons of reviews and, as always, there was no big red arrow pointing at which box actually worked the best.I'm so glad I chose this one. I was a little worried because of all the hype, but it's legitimately better than any box I've had, and I've had a lot. There is NO smell. the filters are great. there's also SO MUCH less litter all over my floor. I've never been able to keep it contained, and although it's still all over, it's an unbelievable difference.one con - it takes up a TON of space. And like half of it is just the stairs, so it's not as big of a litter box as you'd think. I was a little disappointed in this, but it somehow doesn't look so ugly in my bathroom, and the stairs look a lot nicer than the litter that's right at the door in other boxes.I'm cheap, and lazy. Which are important factors when choosing a litter box. This was great. It's around the same price (maybe a LITTLE more) than a normal litter box that's the same size - but with a slight modification to the shape and size of the box, it's a huge improvement in function. I didn't want to spend a ton on a special litter box that probably won't work. I'm glad I didn't. I also wanted enough space so that I didn't have to clean as often and this is a good size (I know, I know - I'm abusive and neglectful... so you don't have to comment and tell me. maybe, instead, you can go and donate your time to an animal shelter or somewhere else where animals are actually suffering) - also, it contains smell better than any litter box I've had. Almost too good.get it, I've always preferred plain rectangle boxes to any other, but this one's legitimately better.the top doesn't stay on so great, and litter box liners don't fit perfectly. not real problems at all. I was confused when I got it and had trouble figuring out how to put in the filter and the piece that holds it in... there weren't instructions... but I figured it out. There really should be instructions though.OH, and it comes with a free liner and a filter. I've never used liners before but after reading a lot of reviews I also bought the johnny cat jumbo litter box liners. The liner that came with the box and the johnny cat ones have worked great for me.If you buy replacement filters, make sure you get the cleanstep ones, not just booda dome - I almost bought those ones, but the reviews warned me they're too small to fit in this one. make sure you get the right kind!!
