Lovely sounding speakers
I bought these speakers to compliment my desktop computer. Not really mini speakers, but on a small stand either side of the desk they fit in very well.It is a few years since I bought speakers (the last pair were a pair of Mission bookshelf speakers) and I have to say that I am absolutely blown away by the sound of these Tannoy 402's. Beautiful top end, lovely detail and a very solid bass. The room I use is not very big so I cannot really comment on how they would perform in larger rooms, but I love these speakers and would recommend them to anyone as near field monitors.

Superb wee monitors for the price. I've recently got rid of a lot of my old studio gear and picked these up as a pair of near field monitors. Sure, they aren't Genelecs but they are superb value and have been more than enough fornwhat is not just a hobby of mine. They do hiss a little though you'd need to be playing music and EXTREMELY low volumes for this to interfere with mixing, but it may be a slight annoyance when there is no music playing. I can't say but bothers me.

Great Monitor Speakers.
Brilliant speakers. I was looking at similarly priced 5inch speakers but the reviews I had read relating to these claimed that the bass response was excellent for a small speaker. When they arrived I couldn't believe how good the bass response was. They are exactly what a good monitor speaker should be giving a true reflection of what you are recording. They perform very well when compared to my friends more expensive KRK speakers. The clincher for me when deciding on these was the ease in which they could be connected to my Mac or iPhone using the supplied mini-jack leads. Also the bass port is to the front of the speakers which means you can have them sitting close to a wall rather than other speakers which need to be further away for a true reflection of bass sounds. Some reviews mentioned an issue with white noise but with mine you have to put your ear very close before you hear any noise coming from the speakers. More than adequate for my home studio requirements.

Very Nice Indeed
I bought this as a centre speaker in my studio surround sound system. For a small speaker it has an excellent low frequency response and seems to have a good overall balance through the audio frequency range. Tannoy always has produced good audio products and this is no exception. Very high quality build and performance. Highly recommended.

Well priced
Very decent for the price. There is an annoying hum when idle, but I only turn them on when using them so...

These could be amazing. They look and sound great
These could be amazing. They look and sound great, really sturdy construction. BUT...they are let down by a noticeable electronic buzz/white noise which I could still hear when trying to mix/monitor quiet passages of music. I have exchanged them for a pair of Presonus Eris 4.5. Same price yet sound 100% better thanks to no buzzzzzzz.....

a great option for small home studios
a great option for small home studios. plenty of bass for a small space really clear sound with is very revealing non fatiguing for extended listening. also a great option for upgrading from computer speakers i use them even day for music pod casts and general listening duties. only small gripe is the power button is on the back as is the volume control but thats not really an issue.in conclusion if you have a pro studio probably not what your looking for but home studio use and general listening they are great and worthy of your consideration

Amazing Value and quality sound but let down by white noise level
CONS. this is why they got 4 stars. First thing to clear up. These have a high standing noise level. This noise level has been deemed acceptable by Tannoy, early models where worse but could be fixed by Tannoy and later models come with the fix but noise is still audible. I purchased models with the later serial number and the noise level was just too much for me.When powered on with no connections the speakers have a constant hiss coming from them. Most monitors will have some level of speaker hiss but the Tannoy's where just a bit too much for me. I could here the hiss in a silent room from 3 feet. Typically with most monitors you would have to put your ear close to the speaker to hear hiss. For most people this will be fine, but these are going in my bedroom so they need to be near silent.PROS: IF you can live with the hiss then you are getting the most stylish and well built monitor on the market in this price range and for £60 its an absolute bargain, no brainer. £120 for this pair is crazy!! I'm literally gutted that i cant live with the hiss because I love everything else about these, design, sound, size, and connections for mobile devices.Listen to the other reviews on quality and sound as they are true.
