I own several of these retractors of varying sizes. They work great for my wading staff, fishing net, and various tools (pliers, forceps. nippers). hey have never failed unlike most other brands that last one of two seasons

I use it for my wading staff while fly fishing. I have it attached to my wading belt. I got the proper lenth adjustment via the included harness and it hangs perfect when not in use. Have even walked along the trail and just let it drag, and it tugs it along fine. Would be great for a fishing net as well, if you can find a location for it. Easy to pull out and retracts perfectly. I would buy another just like this if needed.

I believe they make one of these in aluminum and is probably more sturdy. Not sure of the durability yet as time will tell but I like having the staff at the ready rather than trailing behind me off a leash. I think this is a great safety add.

Way better than having the staff drag in the water.

I used to use a small bungee cord but want something to really get it out of my way so I bought this retractor. The loop clip is a little longer than I like and I couldn’t figure out a way to attach it to eliminate that extra 6 inches of length. I couldn’t figure out a way to attach it with the staff I wanted to use it on except to attach it to its handle which would have made the whole retracted length about 12 inches so I hooked it directly to an old Cabela staff I had where I could unscrew the top and avoid the fabric handle. I’ll have to do some disassembly of my other staff to figure out how to attach it. But the retraction mechanism is flawless.

This retractor has enough beef to it to retract my wading pole and keep it close at hand. I keep it on my right side because my right arm is stronger. I just switch my fly rod to my left when I move.
