This was a really fantastic building blocks kit.The quality and fitment of the pieces is superb and if it weren't for the lack of branding on the blocks themselves not even a lego enthusiast would ever guess that these weren't lego brand. The fitment is tight/snug but not so much so that anything was difficult to pop into place. Everything sticks together very well and nothing feels fragile like it's going to come apart at the slightest movement.The instructions were clear and easy to follow - for an adult. I built this myself as an experienced hobbyist who has built dozens of scale models, model rockets, building block kits, computers, rebuilt cell phones, working with soldering irons, rebuilt engines, etc etc. In other words, I am considered a master of projects where I work with my hands on small, delicate, and intricate parts and assemblies. For me this was child's play. For an average adult it'd be fairly easy. For a teenager this would be easy. For a young child this would be difficult and frustrating. In my opinion this is a great option for older kids but not younger. The parts and details are too small/intricate for a young child but perfect for older kids thru teenagers (8-10+).The set itself is beautiful once built for the scale and for building blocks.Value-wise I think this fits in the $20-$25 region. It's currently listed at $30 so I'd say it's great on sale or with a coupon or as a gift.Overall, I am rating this a 5/5 with the caveat that it's not well suited toward young children. This is definitely worth a buy if you like the design!

This set is a good place to start building rigged sailing vessels. The construction is somewhat basic, but the final result looks good on the shelf. The instructions were clear for the most part and there were no missing pieces. Recommended for younger and beginning builders.

This isn't an awful kit, but for a younger kid trying to build it (and even as an adult helping) a few pieces are impossibly hard. The overall ship is fairly easy, but the rudder falls off constantly, it's held in place by one small piece. The front of the ship is confusing to build, it's just a bunch of pieces stacked together basically. And the sails. F them sails. They aren't part of the "building blocks" just canvas like material and you have to kind of punch holes in them and "string" them, but they tear fairly easily. However, all that aside, the rest of the kit was fairly simple, the instructions are easy to follow, and the pieces are like the name brand competitor, easy to put together, easy to take apart if you do make a mistake.

Overall, this is a great little standard brick size build, and not super difficult or time consuming to build. However! There ARE steps in the build that are very tricky and even downright frustrating. My 11yo (who admittedly, is just getting her toes wet with lego's and stubbornly refuses to wear her glasses when she's building) attempted to start this ship as her first solo build, mixed up a few pieces very early on which led her to believe she was missing pieces later (she wasn't), had the rudder of the ship fall apart on her (which was the straw that broke her back and made her give up on the build, at which point I stepped in to finish it) and kept getting confused by some of the diagrams.Now, all that context aside, here's what you really need to know about this kit: it's great. It looks awesome once it's all together, it's fairly easy to assemble aside from a few steps where the pieces just don't want to line up right and the bricks are very snug. Where it gets tricky is the rudder which has a tendency to fall off easily because it's only connected by a single peg, and the figurehead which is a hot mess of small single peg connections all stacked on each other and has a tendency to fall off whilst you're trying to leverage other pieces onto the ship. The sails are another beast entirely. I almost rage quit while stringing the sails up - you're supposed to feed the string through a series of peg holes that you would think would be super easy to do so, so of course it was absolutely impossible and I had to go raid my crochet basket for a yarn needle to get it all the way through. Oh and don't be surprised about the mast falling over repeatedly until it's fully rigged into place. I highly recommend pausing near the end of the build before you seriously get into building the mast and doing the rigging to finish applying the stickers to the hull and flags of the ship, it'll make your life so much easier, I promise. But like I said at the beginning of my review, overall, this is a nice, experienced beginner build with a few tricky spots where a more experienced set of hands is definitely helpful.
