As a newbie to shaving with a straight razor, it’s a very different experience to a safety razor!As a ‘razor handle’ this works well, it’s easy to hold, bends easily on the hinge but isn’t loose. I’m not holding it in a particular way but it just seems to work.I brought ‘Derby Extra Double Razor blades’ (also on Amazon) to go with it. As they snap in two, they can buckle slightly which makes them harder to slot in. Therefore, it’s much easier to set the razor up while your hands are dry.A word of warning:Using a straight razor is not about ‘not cutting yourself’ while you are shaving as I thought, that’s relatively easy but if you do get a small nick it usually goes away within the day or so.The real thing to watch out for is pushing with the razor which leaves marks on your skin like grazes - they can be painful for a few days and still be visible up-to a week later.Luckily I learnt this on the first shave. I used clean witch hazel gel as the lubricant. I cut one side of my neck and gave it some good grazes shaving with the grain but eased up as I went on to other side. I returned to the first side to go against the grain and gave myself a few more grazes.The second shave, I had a lighter touch - I went all over once with the grain, reapplied lubricant and went all over again with the grain s second time. No cuts or marks but still a nice clean finish.

I have many straight razors, from the high priced to this razor and this is actually as nice as some of the more expensive one's and for my hand size is perfect. I thought I'd give this a shot, as it is certainly not expensive. I'm glad I did. It is easy to hold and use and of course with a new blade in gives a very close shave, as long as you know how to use a straight razor (there's a book on Amazon on how I think). Bit fiddly the first time putting in a blade and getting it straight, but gets easier. The blade usage will very much depend on how strong your bristles are. The seller sent this item in record time and I'm happy with the product!

What is this witchcraft. So, I'm middle aged, ex Army so have done my fair share of shaving. But its taken all this time to have a go with a cutthroat.I chose this particular model on aesthetics and price alone. Just in case this wasn't for me. First impressions is that it's well made with good materials. The most important bits is that the two made components don't flop about, which they don't and the attachment for the blade keeps it secure and it does. So that's it. It works and it's cheap.But to the witchcraft.... One blade any better to the over engineered cartridge that are £24 for 8 with god knows how many blades and lub strips? It was my first go and had the technique straight away. It was THE closest shave I've ever had (with time and patience). Seriously after 7000 shaves and goodness knows how much cash spent who knew the closest shave would cost 5pence....5p, and that's if you used a new blade every day. I can't remember if I said.... THE best and closest shave ever. One blade. Witchcraft.

Really like this razor, loaded it with a Derby blade and for my first attempt with a straight razor it did a brilliant job. I would definitely recommend this if you are starting out with a straight razor. It looks amazing with the metal matt black finish and it’s weighty making you feel as you have a quality.I bought the razor for detailing but the barber messed up my beard so I clean shaved with this. I had a tiny nick but as I said earlier it was my first go of using a straight razor and the technique wasn’t there.Brilliant product just take your time with installing the razor blade, and when shaving put very little pressure on your face. Take your time and YouTube a shaving video or two before you start :-)

Having not long switched from cartridge to DE shaving, I found myself curious about the pinnacle of male grooming. I spied this item and warmed to the reviews and low cost. The price meant only a small loss if I didn't fancy the switch to a cut-throat, but after just one use the end-result was a super-smooth, silky shave. This really is the top spot when it comes to a wet shave, however, where this product loses points is in the build quality. I knew the razor was black and likely painted but didn't expect it to arrive with paint already scratched away, plus the handle was misshaped so needed to be bent slightly to get it all straight again.

It’s a ten quid shavette but it does what it should. Too many bad reviews on here because people didn’t realise you need to buy the blades too! And as for give it a miss because “it’ll cut your face to bits” well it’s a cut throat razor (clue is in the title)! If you don’t know how to use one or can’t be bothered to learn then don’t expect to have a fun time with it. I’m new to the straight razor shave but it was a cheap way to find out if it was for me! It is, and I’ve just lumped out 300 for a proper straight razor and this one will go with me on holiday.

I have purchased other brand razors, and had mixed experiences, went with this one as I'd seen in a barbers. It's less nerve-wracking than using a straight razor, and a good way to hone your skills, although I'm not confident enough to do the bean bag yet! Good quality razor, holds the blade securely with no movement. Easy to fit the blades (buy some separately) it comes in a handy case which keeps it clean and secure, very pleased with it.
