Q: What caused the strap to break?

The strap wasn’t affixed tight enough. After only a couple of times carrying the purse one strap ripped out. It needed to be sewn tighter. Or maybe the purse was cheaply made.

Q: Are there any pockets inside?

There is only one zippered pocket in the middle of the purse.
