Who Is Michelle Obama? (Who Was?)

Great facts are recorded in this book. However, the title does not mention other high profile women being included within the text. Each of the women highlighted have powerful stories. We were surprised to see the short stories of other women included. Mrs. Michelle Obama is a phenomenal woman; she is deserving of a book that focuses solely on her story.

Great little book for my 11 year old who needed 3 book sources for a class essay. Fun read for Black History Month...we love Michelle! Makes a nice addition to her bookshelf.

I bought this for my 8 and 9 year olds, but they are refusing to read the Who Is series for no good reason. I read it and enjoyed it and so did my 15 year old daughter. She has tons of reading to do for school and doesn't like to take on big books for leisure, but this is the perfect length to read in one sitting and get a little education. We both learned several things we didn't know about Michelle Obama. I do agree with other reviewers that the timeline of the story isn't the easiest to follow, but I'm not sure how much that would detract from young readers' understanding.

These are my go to books when my 4th grader has a book report on a particular person. Small, easy to read.

My daughter recently read this for a biography project. This little book is packed with information. She loved the book and we love this biography series.

These are the best non-fiction books for 2-5 graders. Every kid should have them

Love these books! Got them for my daughter who’s 3 and even tho there chapter books still a great way to introduce her to people and things as she grows!

These books are very good. I’ve come around on them. I initially didn’t like series because of the softcover format and the uninspiring black and white illustrations that are often quite bad and of low quality (this doesn't go for all books). However, the selection of topics is really great. And secondly, they contain a lot of information and come with a clear narrative. While there are little one- or two-page sections that provide more insight about and aspect of a person’s life or era he/she lived in. So the contents are really great, even for grown-ups as a quick catch-up on the topic.Now personally I don’t have much with American politics other than that I’m amazed at how it gradually degenerated in such a dangerous mess. I’m more interested in the historical US presidents. My 10-year old daughter however is quite interested and upset by contemporary US politics, apparently they talk about it at school (who knows, maybe because our local politicians are such boring examples of virtue and prudent governance..lol). Anyway, our little book worm has a keen interest in Obama and obviously Michelle as well. Also, she loves these little history books. I used them occasionally for guided reading sessions. However, that goes too slow to her taste, she likes them so much that she rather locks herself up in her room, and devourers it in one or two reading sessions. Can’t blame her for that. So I buy one or two of these books with a certain frequency, often about a less obvious topic to broaden her knowledge about these influential people from the past few centuries, like Davey Crocket, Walt Disney, Mohammed Ali and J.K Rowling. So her little collection fo these books is growing. And so is her historic awareness.Good stuff.

Really good read, my daughter loved it. Its nice to have a children's book with a strong yet gentle black female figure for a change. I also love the fact they mentioned a number of past female figures. My only concern was the mention of slavery, as this is a subject i think should be approached with ease for children this age as it might cause confusion if is something they hadn't been introduced too yet.

Every little girl should read.
