As expected
These are for part of a sharpening system for tools that I am creating. I've used this brand of discs before and have not been disappointed. This batch has performed as before, so I can recommend.

purchased for a sharpening application
Much thinner backing material than I expected. I used one pad one time and I'm not sure it will work anywhere near as well the second time. It seems to have lost much of its grit feel but we'll see. I saw it on a video, used as a sharpening system for tools. Not sure it will be cost effective or long lasting. Again we'll see

Avoid - Unless you Want to Sand by Hand
Similar to my review of the hook version, my experience is that 3M has used its R&D money for a great sanding surface and then either ran out of money or ignored investing in the backing surface that is crucial to using these discs as intended.The backing is so poor, these discs literally fly off your orbital sander within minutes - and in some cases within seconds - of attaching them.So, if you want to use these discs to sand by hand, you've hit the jackpot as the sanding surface is very good. But if you want to use these on your orbital sander as intended, that's an entirely different story.Not recommended.
