OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS The Shakespeare: Hamlet

I bought this edition of Hamlet in order to re-read the play before I went to see the production starting Sir Ian McKellen at Theatre Royal, Windsor. I’m glad I did so because it was great to refresh myself. i might add that this edition would be especially useful for people who are not familiar with the play. There are extensive explanatory notes on each page of the script. Happy to highly recommend this edition.

It’s a nice copy and good quality but I’m very disappointed to find upon reading in class that a chunk of 20 lines is missing from act 1 scene 1. This needs to be fixed. I hope not to find any more missing chunks as this text is crucial for my A Levels. Unfortunately I could not return seeing as I’d already started to annotate it.

Good quality book.

I purchased this for an online course I am undertaking at it was the recommended version. I have studied Shakespeare before and Hamlet in particular so know the content quite well.

I now prefer these editions to the Arden editions, less academic and more pragmatic from a performer perspective.
