Weller is the Best
My old one was on it's last leg when trying to solder one last wire before it quit. I've had problems with it for a long time and it was just struggle to finish a job until it fell against a wall...:)My new one is such a pleasure to use I should have replaced the old one years ago.Very quick heating and cooling make it so easy to use.Two position switch with the half trigger position on high and full trigger position medium. Took me awhile to figure that one.Very heavy duty and well made.Love using it.

must have for hobbyist, technician, and DIY hero.
this is a must have if you do any soldering of larger wires (RC cars/planes/quadcopters/helis automotive, solar). so far i have soldered 10 gauge lipo battery wires to new plugs. i heats up in seconds with tons of power so you can do a quick soldering job and not soak everything with heat. when i first got it the performance dropped and it would not get very hot. just tighten the set screws that secure the tip to the machine and it works fantastic. there are hundreds or thousands of amps flowing through the tip so it needs a good electrical connection through the set screws.the light bulbs are kind of a joke and just flop around but i dont really care because the machine works well where it counts.

Best Weller Soldering gun EVER!
I just received my new Weller D650 soldering gun via FedX. It was packaged adequately and arrived in mint condition. I was leery about the new tip connectors but they are an improvement over the old style. The new type of plastic housing is also an improvement over the older brittle plastic that would brake when the soldering gun is dropped (and believe me it will happen some day). I plugged it in after reading the instruction pamphlet, and tined the tip. This gun has a lot of heat available for soldering large wires (or coax pl259s' etc.). The head lights work just fine, in fact the fit and finnish looks good, much better than it looks in the photos. This gun replaces my 30+ year old D550 that I lost in a fire. This is a much heavier duty than the old D550. If you were hesitating to purchase a D650 because of some of the low ratings from some reviewers, DON'T, this is a fine product that will give you years of service.

Bare tool, no wrench, no manual. However, seems to work well.
Heavy duty, works well but is rather heavy in the hand. NOTE: This is a bare tool, nothing else included, not even the wrench needed to remove or tighten the tip, no manual—and you need the manual or you'll burn the gun out. The manual can be downloaded from the Weller site. I do find the half-pull for full power a bit odd, but I understand the reasoning behind it.

Weller has gone down the sewer
Weller has gone down the sewerThe Company I ordered from is Top Drawer – a great Company.Fast delivery and a great price, what more could you ask more. But – Weller is not what it was in 1964.*When I got my first 100/140 watt gun in 1964, the first click was low power, and the second click ( full depressed ) was the High power setting. This made sense, low then high power trigger settings.53 years later, I find that I need a new one.The New one just didn’t heat the same as my old one did.I cleaned the tip, tightened the set screws, so much so that I stripped one of the screws.(Where were the big nuts that held the tips in 1964 – they never stripped out?)So, I next ordered the 200/300 watt gun to do a job that the 100/140 watt should have done.Well, I destroyed the actual solder in the “Low” setting (first click) from a “to high a temperature.”So, I disassembled the little gun, to see if I could fix it.1. Low / high switch was backward. (this seems to be a systemic stigmatic bug – all guns)2. The second winding was bucking the main winding – out of phase.Ok, I rewired the switch, and now the gun works fine. (need a new trigger switch though)My new High Power gun is backward “Hi/low” also, but at least the second winding is correct.I used to only buy Weller: soldering pencils, guns, tips, and accessories. Now, tips, threads, gun logic, and even sponges have been bastardized.I will Not order Weller stuff anymore, and are looking at other companies to equip my new lab.

It's a horse!
It heats up quickly and gets hot enough for the heavy duty jobs. Just what I needed!

Quality stuff!
This thing has been working great for nearly 4 years so far! I use it on everything from automotive, trailer, OPE, and motorcycle repair, to household wiring fixes. I just recently used this to solder in a 5' extension to the power cord of a heated toilet seat I purchased here on Amazon! Been holding up great so far. It lives it's life in a unheated, uninsulated New England barn, too. Replaced a 20 year old Radio Shack unit that finally melted down.Saved myself over $500 resoldering components into a circuit board for my indirect hot water heater, and Davis weather station I have at my house. Has paid for itself many times over.

Works great!
I fought with a smaller solder gun for years. Should have done this much sooner.
