Q: My sharpening slots have become quite dull very quickly and have resorted to using a rod to sharpen. Anyone had this happen?

Yes, these knives are HIGHLY OVER-RATED as is the sharpening slots. I had 3 of them go out after 1 or 2 uses. Really cannot recommend this product to anyone.

I suppose that if you want to, you can. The block has standard knife-slots in the wood. Ceramic sharpeners are mounted in the throat of each of the top six slots. Each time the knife is withdrawn or inserted, it slides on the sharpener. We hand-wash and dry the knives, so they carry nothing into the slots. The information from the manufacturer does not address cleaning the slots.
