Love After Dark (Gansett Island Series Book 13)

A bit boring
I have read all the stories so far from Gansett Island and I want to finish the series but it seems like it's never ending with the same old stories dragging on. I even skimmed through some of these pages. The problem I have is that I wanted to enjoy the story of Hope and Paul. I didn't need to read everyone else's story all over again. I wanted to enjoy the new couple she was telling the story about.I didn't mind her throwing in Slim and Erin but it should have been at the end of the book to introduce us to her next book with them. I'm not sure if I will read anymore of the Gansett books as they are starting to get boring and it's the same story over and over again.

So Much Going On!
No one can honestly say that the Gansett island series avoids difficult or painful subjects. I think that is one of the things that makes them so compelling. Everyone in Gansett Island does not have a perfect life. I believe that some of the things that make you feel like life is so good for the residents is the outpouring of love, loyalty, and support from family and friends alike.Hope and Paul's story was sweet. She came along to help Paul and Alex deal with their mother's dementia. Hope and her son Ethan, also found love and support by living on the Island. I did like Hope almost all the way to the end. Toward the end, I felt like she was willing to give up what she had found way too easily. I understood why she felt like she had to, but it didn't seem like Hope tried to hard to investigate other options. I felt bad for Paul because he had finally gotten his chance, and thought he was going to lose it.The situation with Lisa was sad. But Seamus, Carolina, and Gansett Island rallied around to find a solution. One of the things I enjoy about these books is you get to revisit so many of the previous characters and there is always a new character introduced. If you have never read any of the series, I would be hesitant to start with this book. You absolutely could, but you might have some difficulty keeping track of everyone and their story. Or, it might just make you want to start at the beginning. The bachelorette party scenario was good for a few chuckles. In this book, people were getting married, engaged, healing, struggling with breakups, deaths, etc., but it never gave off depressing vibes. I am looking forward to Slim and Erin's story and wondering if Kevin and Chelsea will have a story.A sweet, sexy, uplifting story with new beginnings and HEA's.

Back for more
I love this series. I really do the characters are fun and intriguing, mysterious and oh so sexy. It is always nice to come back to the island and catch up. With that said I felt a little let down with this book. Don't get me wrong the writing style was still superb but I felt that Paul and hope's story was overshadowed by so many other things going on in this book. I know we have met a lot of characters and really do want to stay connected with them. However I didnt get a strong sense of bonding taking place with these two. It felt rushed and almost forced into the storyline. There was just so much going on in this book that poor Paul and Hope took a back burner. We had a funeral, Carolina and Seamus trying to come to terms with becoming parents, a bachelor party in which the women antagonize the men and of course thrash it. A wedding, plans for a senior center to be built on the island, uncle Kevin trying to come to terms with his impending divorce, possibly a romance blooming in the future for him. One lighthouse keeper being rescued in the middle of the night by one smoother operator, doctor visits, anniversary planning and that's just a small sample of everything that took place inside of this book that by the way ends with 38 minutes still left in the book. The other 10% is advertisement for upcoming books.Don't get me wrong I'm not being ugly toward Marie I love this series and will definitely read the next book I just HATE that this series has gotten so big that the main characters take second place to all the other town folks.

THE KISS THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
LOVE AFTER DARK – Marie Force, Gansett Island Series, Book 13THE KISS THAT CHANGES EVERYTHINGPaul Martinez and his brother Alex have been run ragged by the demands of running the family landscaping business and caring for their mother who is battling dementia. They have hired nurse Hope Russell who brings relief to caring for their mother but brings a new problem for Paul - lusting after one of his employees. Hope and her young son need to restart their lives and Gansett Island is perfect for them. While she admires the way Paul cares for his mother and her son, she fights falling for him. She can’t risk losing her job and new home by falling for her boss. He’s tortured by falling for one of his employees, something he knows his late father wouldn’t approve of. Brother Alex has found his happy ever after (book 10) and the wedding is approaching but something is bothering Jenny, his future wife.In this book we get to catch up on all our favorites from the series and see new relationships starting to form and hint of new arrivals. All emotions are in this book. It’s a fun, warm, sexy, romantic book. The healing power of the island, as Gansett fans refer to it, is in full force. Marie did a good job walking us thru the disease of Dementia. One of my favorite lines is when Hope explains the patient’s behavior as that “they don’t mean to be insulting or demeaning, or nasty. That’s it’s the disease talking not the perfectly nice people they’d been before dementia struck.” As always, Marie seamlessly weaves multiple story lines throughout the book. She writes with humor (the girl’s epic prank on the guys). Writes feel good stories with HEA. She writes strong, committed people who have strong morals and values. One of my favorite things about this series is that the women don’t do drama. They really care and support one another. The Island is filling up with youngsters so Marie is sure to have plenty of islanders to write about for decades.

4 "This island is known for its healin' powers." stars
It's been a while since I visited Gansett Island. This series has always been one of my go-to's when I just want a good old pick me up and dose of the feel goods with a cast of characters whose stories continue to evolve even when they're not at the forefront. For me, picking up Love After Dark was like meeting up with an old friend; it's been a while, but it seems like just yesterday that we were together."It’s a rare thing, a miracle of sorts, for two people so incredibly well-suited to each other to find one another in this chaotic world."Book 13 in the series sees Paul Martinez and Hope Russell fight and fail over crossing the employer/employee line. As is pretty much the norm between the characters in this series, both fall hard and fast and not without a little smattering of angst and inner turmoil added into the mix. And in Paul and Hope's case, her time on the island has an expiry date; as the nurse hired to oversee Paul's mum's care, once his mum moves into a care-facility, Hope's work will be done."I’m having highly indecent thoughts, and all of them involve you."It was fairly predictable but that mattered not as it did exactly what I wanted and left me with the aforementioned feel-goods. I do think that due to the sheer number of characters certain appearances serve little purpose other than to inject a sexy scene and remind you they're there, and there does appear to be an over-abundance of pregnancies, but on the whole I am pleased to see Marie has slimmed down just how many character revisits she slots in with greater focus on a select fewAll in all another lovely visit to the island and I certainly won't be leaving it as long next time.

Heartbreakingly good
There's nothing to not love about this series, and if you haven't yet read about the Mcarthy's of Gansett island then you seriously don't know what you're missing. It's like being wrapped in a warm blanket with a bowl of hot soup on a cold, stormy day. The characters become your friends and you feel everything that they go through. Paul & Hope's story is full of sorrow, hope and love. Following Paul and his brother Alex's story as they cope with their Mom's dementia is truly heartbreaking. Marie Force is so good at giving you the back story of their lives so that you understand the true horror of their present. The Mom that used to take care of them so well, that loved her husband so completely, that ironed their shirts, helped them take care of the family business, that scolded them when they needed it and loved them so fiercely throughout their lives, that woman is gone to be replaced by someone who barely recognises them, whose confusion turns to anger, who is constantly difficult and who is rapidly declining before their eyes. I'm not ashamed to say there were tears rolling down my cheeks a few times in the book, but there was also laughter and loving. The connection and support of their friends is ever present and brings immense comfort and relief. The girls hen night `prank' was hysterically funny and Maddie's `punishment' made me think she was indeed a very lucky lady. Go Mac! Hope is a bit of an enigma in the beginning and places a barrier between her and Paul that at times seems insurmountable. When Paul uncovers the reason why you can understand why she's that why, but there were times i wanted to give her a shake for putting him and herself through the ringer. They made another wonderful couple who in the end were well matched. I can't wait for my next visit to the characters i have come to love as family.

MARIE FORCE AT HER BEST
LOVE AFTER DARK - What can I say about this book that has not been said already.Marie Force has a talent for writing this amazing series The McCarthys of Gansett Island. If you haven't already started reading these books you are missing out. The more books in this series, the more I love them. This is the story of Paul Martinez and nurse Hope who has come to Gansett Island with her son to look after Paul and Alex's mother who suffers from Dementia. We see how the Martinez boys struggle with the fact that their mother is getting worse. We also catch up with the other Gansett Island residents who have been mentioned in all the books and especially Mac and Maddie McCarthy who's story started this wonderful series off (Maid for Love - The McCarthys of Gansett Island) enjoy ......

I'm sorry, I think this series has ran its course
Only half way through this book and I'm not sure I want to finish it. I'm not rooting for Hope and Paul at all. Their conversations are dull and boring, and I'm not feeling the usual chemistry you normally get in Marie's books. It may have something to do with how often we get an appearance from our other Island couples. Don't get me wrong, I love to see how they are all doing, but not when it takes so much away from the couple the book is supposed to be about. There's been no build up to Hope and Paul's relationship, no tension. And the other Island couples moments are mainly sex scenes, and all rather the same (I.e same context and thoughts from the couples) I love this series, but I think it may have ran its course

A fantastic story in a really fantastic series
Another fantastic book in this series, this one featuring Paul Martinez and Hope Russell and her son Ethan who have recently moved to the island in order to care for Paul's mum, who is suffering with Dementia and at times was heartbreaking to read, especially the interactions between Paul his brother Alex and there mum, but there was also lighthearted moments and it felt very realistic too. What I really love about this series though, is the fact you get to catch up with all the residents of Gansett Island, who have started to feel like old friends, yet the multiple characters and storylines are woven so well together, it never detracts from the main couple and there own happy ending

Loved it!!!!
Loved this book as much as the other 12 in this series..Paul has had so much on his plate since his mum was diagnosed with dementia... Finding it hard he and his brother decide to hire a nurse to see to her needs..Hope has had her fair share of heartbreak and can't wait to leave the mainland and move to Gansett Island with her young son...As Paul learns of her heartbreak, he can't help feeling something for this beautiful woman.. but he's her boss and his father always taught him to never mix business with pleasure... I love this series, if you haven't read this any of this series, then you really need to!!

Faultless.
Gansett Island series has to be one of the best on the market. From the first book I fell in love with every character. With every book you are drawn further into the lives and loves of some amazing town's folk. This lastest instalment was filled to overflowing with old favourites. Reading Gansett is like being drawn into a soap opera were you will experience a rollercoaster of emotions. Love the series, can't recommend it highly enough.

Happy ever after
Catching up with the Resident of gansett island was great. But Paul and hope story was dull of laughter sadness and love and happy ever after which everyone deserves. Paul and hope we're brought together through work but slowly started to fall for each other. They helped each other see that they are good for each other and fall in lo e and commit completely. A true love story

loved it cried laughed and cried again
What can I say another masterpiece from Marie force..loved it cried laughed and cried again. As much as it was Paul and hopes story and how they overcame her doubts about their relationship...the continuing stories of their mum and her illness, Lisa the young mum and alex and jennys wedding were right up there for me and the hen party was so funny. A brilliant book very close to the series best for me

Laughter, tears, romantic moments it has it all.
I have read every book so far of Gansett Island and they just get better and better each time. This was a lovely story about Paul and Alex, and their Mothers battle with her illness. The catch up with all the other residents was brilliant. There is laughter, sadness, a wedding, a funeral and the way they all pull together no matter what happens to any one of them is heart warming.

Paul and Hope
Yet another great book from Marie. I enjoyed reading this book and catching up with all the other characters. I so loved Paul and Hope's story. You just don't know when love will find you. Don't want to give up to much of the story so you will have to read it yourself. Next book number 14.
