Almost perfect - 4-1/2 Stars
That blasted alarm hand almost had me sending this beautiful clock back. As some other reviewers noted, it can make it very hard to tell the time. I was on the verge of sending it back when I had the idea to move the clock. In the new location, the way the light hits the face of the clock makes it easy to ignore the alarm hand. (In the other location, the alarm hand was prominent and confusing.)Howard Miller, please remove the alarm! I cannot imagine anyone having a clock like this on their nightstand. It's not a bedside clock, it's a mantle clock. I'm dinging the rating half a star for the alarm. That aside -- my, oh, my, this is one BEAUTIFUL clock! I live in a 1925 bungalow and this timepiece fits right in with the decor. It's got a nice, solid, heavy metal case. Looks like quality and feels like quality.I've only had it a week. Am hanging onto the box since someone said theirs started keeping bad time after a month or so. Absolutely will want to exchange it for the same model if that happens. I love this clock. Love it.

A perfect desk clock
This clock is well made the metal work is beautiful the clock is well made and solid and heavy only the clock part is plastic. It"s what it is a desk clock or close bookcase where you can see it . In no way is it an alarm clock to wake you up in the morning. If you have no need for the alarm function turn it off and set the alarm stem on the clock face to 12 then you will not be confused what the time is. Remember your seeking nostalgia!

Tells time accurately, but that alarm hand needs to go
I really love this clock. it is heavy, and won't get knocked off a table or mantle easily. It tells time accurately. The one thing I dislike about it is that the alarm hand is so large, it is easily mistaken for the second hand. We got the clock because we needed one in the living room, so we aren't going to be using the alarm. If I could, I would rip that stupid arm right off. However, restraining my self from clock disfiguration, I decided to live with this flaw instead of returning the clock. This clock has a traditional look to it, which is why I picked it. It looks good on our mantel, and it is easily read from across the room. Another plus is that this is battery operated, and you can tell time during a power outage, assuming you have a flashlight. We felt this was a decent clock for the price, having looked at many.

It's About Time!
This is a really beautiful clock in person. I wanted something that would look nice on the night stand (read: not a modern digital clock) but still had alarm functionality, and this clock delivers. The alarm is not very loud, so it may not work well for heavy sleepers. You can hear a slight tick from the second hand (especially in the dead of night), but compared to other clocks I own, it's relatively soft. The clock is a lot heavier than I assumed it would be-from the picture it looks more wood-like, but the clock casing and the scroll work are metal. The only negative for me was the "Made in China" stamp on the rear of the base. The stamp is bright white and very obvious (which would be fine if it were on the bottom of the clock, but it's on the rear of base/platform). No deduction in stars for this - a few dabs with a black Sharpie took care of it!

Bad
I've had this clock for just over a month. It's beautiful and looks just as it looks in the pictures. However, in the last week it has stopped keeping time. At first I thought the batteries were going, but no, the clock just continues to lose minutes. I set it yesterday morning with new batters and 10 hours later when I returned home it was 2.5 hours behind. Not good. Waste of money.Sadly, I bought 2, one is a gift that I haven't given out yet. I'm not sure that I can give it to the recipient at this point.

Great Clock no Tock!
This was a good looking clock. I thought I would try it even though some reviews stated it did not keep proper time. Well, it didn't and within a few days!! How disappointing Howard Miller!!!!! There also is the reflection problem and yes get rid of the alarm hand.

Easy Fix For This Little Gem
This is a nice clock. Nice size, weight, legible numerals. Only complaint is the alarm hand which can be deceiving at first glance. So I solved the problem by removing the four outside screws, taking out the unit from the base surround, then I carefully removed the adhesive tape holding the glass on. Once off I simply snipped the alarm hand short to make reading this clock much much easier. Took me about 15 minutes to do this. Also cleaned the inside of the glass with windex as it was filthy. Absolutely love this thing now.

A bit loose at the pedestal attachment
I love the clock, but it wiggles a little on the the pedestal? Not sure if I should return. Will be ok I guess as long as it does not get worse. It Is beautiful and the 3 stars are only due to the slight wobble issue - would have given it 5 stars.
