This is a book I read through on a first setting. Since then, I have kept it handy. I find myself picking it up quite frequently, whenever the urge overcomes me to assure myself that not all people in my native country, or elsewhere in the world, are selfish, willfully ignorant, enraged and hate-filled. First Lady Michelle Obama's own words in print serve to remind me that no matter what the circumstance or accident of birth that brought me here, to the United States of America, at this time and to this place, I am a most fortunate individual. The First Lady's words reveal what she is, exactly as she is, which is human. We have that in common, she and I. There is no pretense, no made-up-for-the-public image about this woman. She is the real thing: joyful, funny, wise, extraordinary! Michelle Obama in her Own Words is a book I will buy over and over again to give as gifts, not only for the girls and women I love, but also for the boys and men I care deeply about.

Michelle Obama has made quite an impact on the political scene and a name for herself apart from that of her illustrious husband, the President of the United States. As the wife of a Senator and First Lady, her words are taken down, measured, criticized and printed at every twist and turn in the road. Here are her thoughts and opinions on everything from growing up poor but hopeful, race relations in America, raising children in today's world, being married to a political powerhouse, changing the world and every other subject she has been good enough to share with us throughout her career and lifetime thus far.

This book of Michelle Obama's quotes shows an intelligence & down-to-earth, realistic, no nonsense attitude that so many people lack these days. Mrs. Obama is an incredible woman, unique & confident. I read some of her quotes to my daughter every night because I want her to see how a truly good woman thinks about certain things, and I want her to have excellent, trustworthy role models like Mrs. Obama. There are some women (Palin) who use the wrong techniques to try to get ahead in the world. I want my daughter to know she never has to be like those kinds of women, and that she can absolutely achieve great things when she has role models such as an incredible woman like Michelle Obama.

The book contains quotes of our first lady. I expected something different but after getting over my surprise it was ok. The author just collected quotes on different topics. And this is how the book is organized: Headline and then quotes on a topic, next headline and so on..Some of the quotes are funny, some are touching, some are smart, and some are plain boring like nothing else could be found to be printed. It is ok to get an impression but don't expect a biogaphy!

The content of this book is quotations from Michelle Obama's public speeches and interviews. It's short and easy to read, while we learn more about the First Lady's political philosophy and beliefs. She is a strong woman who believes in the power of each person to make a difference in the community, nation and world.

I learned so much from this book. I am buying another one about her.

The book was fun to read and it lets you get to know Michelle and her family a bit more. You also get a sense of who she "is" while reading this book.

I thought I was going to get a good book about a good lady. I found it ok but wouldn't recommend it to anyone who thought they were going to get a good read.
