Darn Good Yarn - Crochet kit for Beginners to Intermediate | Fox DIY Crochet Amigurumi - Crochet Kit Include Pattern, Yarn, Crochet Hook, Stuffing and Knitting Needles

This was my second crochet project, and I was glad I did a Woobles kit first - this yarn was much more difficult to work with, and the instructions definitely aren’t intended to teach you how to crochet. But if you already know what you’re doing (and maybe have a little extra colored yarn because I ran out of a couple of them before finishing the tail & mane for each color), I highly recommend!

Am-13 Gingerbread Man:After learning from The W**bles, I decided to try out a bunch of other Amigurumi kits.Fourth is a “DIY Gingerbread Amigurumi” kit. It is marked 3 out of 4 for difficulty. It comes with a pattern sheet that is crochet on one side & knitting on the other. There does not seem to be a YouTube video you can follow along with. This kit was $14.99 USD.The instruction sheet shows over / over single crochet stitch instructions.I like the neatness & tightness of the under / over single crochet stitch method better than the over / over method previously learned, so I used that instead.The sewing needle & unlabelled plastic crochet hook provided are bendy crap. I prefer a sturdy longer handled ergonomic hook. I used a 3.5mm hook. You could go with a smaller hook since this yarn is probably DK 3 weight. It works up nicely without splitting. The brown is too dark in colour for gingerbread. It looks more like chocolate. There was not enough yarn to complete this project. I had to finish off with green.This project is done in continuous rounds, which I forgot by the time I started this project. I remembered after already joining 12 rounds of the head. I did the body in continuous rounds.This is a good example of the difference between crocheting with a join closing each round vs a continuous round.This is the first time I have had to crochet a body continuously to 2 separate legs. There are no instructions for this. A video for this would be really helpful. I had to guess. It took me a few attempts to get something to work.The kit comes with safety eyes. It also contains 4 small sturdy plastic skewers to pin the head & arms to the body for sewing.If you can successfully complete a W**bles Amigurumi character, you might be able to make this.

I was slightly disappointed because I thought the finished project would be bigger. The patterns were easy enough to follow. The yarn feels nice but tends to split easily.

My niece love it

I have crocheted a lot in my life. I only bought this kit to try it out to see if it was suitable as a gift for a friend's kid. The directions are lacking a bit. A beginner would need to reference youtube videos or ask someone for help. My biggest complaint is the color of the yarn for the terra cotta pot. It is extremely bright orange, that of a pumpkin. I am disappointed and not a fan of the color. The plastic crochet hook is flimsy and I substituted with my own. I think in all, it is a bit overpriced.

Came with no directions took about week to connect with some one and get them then was on Me to print them

This is a great gift for someone who loves to crochet! I wouldn’t recommend for entry level beginners because of the size of yarn being worked with and the complicated stitches, but for people who are still getting into it and have learned some stuff it’s great!

I have some experience with crochet and amigurumi, but definitely not an expert. I like the idea of the kit where the yarns and all material included. Here’s why it’s only 3 stars1) the yarn is actually not that great. It’s difficult for crochet since they split2) I have never knitted amigurumi before. The included instruction and needles were cool and I tried the new method. However, the pictures weren’t great so I actually have to watch some video on YouTube to learn to use it. Once I understand how the stitch works, then the steps are easy to follow3) The included tools (crochet hooks, double pointed knitting needles, sewing needles) are a joke. I ended up using my own hook (from a different kit), and I bought new set of knitting needles since I like the way the knitted project look4) There are mistakes in the crochet instruction. The number of stitch for cactus 2 is incorrectOverall, i won’t get this kit for beginner. However if you have some experience or won’t mind watching some video to learn first, then the end product is pretty cute.
